Lets talk about this....How Liberated Are The Youth Of The New Generation??

Values are said to be a set of standard that give meaning and important to everything. That is why it is necessary for us to understand its real meaning in the context of Filipino experiences. One's values are used to measure his personality and are viewed as an internal model for his external behavior.Having the right values in life is the essence of a true human being and above all, being a true Filipino. But the question is,do the Youth of our generation have the right values? Are they liberated? How far are they liberated? Here are some situations that may help you arrive at an answer to these question.
Many of us know that teenagers nowadays engage in different vices even at such a young age. One such vices is drinking liquors, w/c is said to be the most common of all. Teenagers think , if they drink, they are in. In other words, peer pressure is the strongest cause for such vice . Likewise, some teeners drink because it is what they see among their parents or other relatives.
If teenagers drink it will be followed by smoking (that is with only a few exceptions). In disco houses, you could see teenager acting like wild animals. They drink, smoke and do dirty dancing. We are not only talking of boys here, but even girls. And this makes it more alarming. Where are the values in here? What will happen next to this?
Next to getting drunk and smoking, youngsters also involve themselves in premarital sex or some even engage in prostitution. That is the reason why there are so many unwanted pregnancies.Several young girls get pregnant even in their high school years hey only think of the fun and pleasure they get , but they do not anticipate the consequences they might create.
Youngsters at present don't even care their education. In fact, they would cut classes just to spend the time in enjoyment. For some the only reason they go to school is to have allowances, hence, have something to spend to their vices. These teenagers don't give any regard to their pitiful parents who are working hard to support their education and other basic needs. What is worst is that, aside from fooling around these children ask for extra allowances, saying they have projects to pay, but in truth the money just go to useless and harmful things. Others even spend hard earned money of their parents to support not only themselves but also their lovers. Some teenagers also indulge in gambling to have fun, not thinking about how hard their parents earn the money they are spending.
Furthermore, young girl nowadays , wear sexy and skimpy clothes. They do not observe the proper attire to put on in certain places. Propriety is the word. Some even go to church or to school wearing skimpy skirts and sexy clothes showing some private parts of their bodies. This then temps some men to commit rape or acts of lasciviousness. Its nice to be in and fashionable, but see to it that is within the bounds of decency. For what we wear reflects our personality.
These are just some observation. I don't intend to generalize for I still believe in the goodness of man. However,I can help getting depressed with the prevailing trends. It seems that the old Filipino values practice by our for bearers have been replaced, little by little, with a culture we have adopted from foreign lands.
It is not bad to imitate what is good or one that could help bring progress to our country, but let us be choosy. Let us restore our true Filipino values, the traits to which we have been known for years. Let us change the image we are now creating not only here in our naive land but even to other people of the world. Fellow teenagers, let us not wait for Dr. Jose Rizal to rise from his grave just to remind us that we, the youth, are the hopes of our fatherland.
